A food sociologist at Lakehead University isn’t surprised by a survey showing Canadians are spending less time cooking and eating together.
The survey was commissioned by LG Electronics Canada and shows 77 percent of us are missing out on family memories by not participating in family meals.
LU’s Barbara Parker tells us in her line of research she has discovered the same thing.
She notes there are many reasons why with the most common being that too many of us are busy at work.
Parker herself expresses concern because “the more we can do to encourage people to eat together and build community and build family and build relationships the better off we will be as a society.”
The survey also found more than half of Canadians (53 per cent) feel that family recipes bring them closer to their heritage.
And, more than 40 per cent of Canadians are worried that their family heritage will be lost if their family recipes aren’t passed down.
