Students Expected To Walk Today In Protest

Expect some disruptions at high schools across the province this afternoon, including Thunder Bay.

Students across the province are planning a “walk-out” at 1:15 to protest proposed changes to education announced by the Ford government.

The Lakehead public board has tweeted it expects students to walk, as they’ll be showing up at MPP Michael Gravelle’s office.

The Keewatin-Patricia District Board says it won’t prevent students from participating.

That board’s Director of Education Sean Monteith says any students not in attendance in their classes will be marked as absent as per school board policies, and families will be notified accordingly as per usual.

Monteith adds any student action will be deemed outside the scope of the board and they won’t be providing supervision.
