The city has a new $2.5 million dollar-per-year contract for its recycling program.
Solid Waste Manager Jason Scherband explains it’s almost 1.4 million dollars more than their last agreement because of stricter regulations in China.
“Recyclables are a commodity, and it’s harder to market that material now. Think of it as supply and demand. We’ve got more supply than demand, and markets can get picky now and our biggest market has essentially dried up.”
The agreement will last from January 1st, 2019 to June 30, 2020.
