Matawa Condemns Police Video

Matawa First Nations Management is condemning what they call excessive use of force against a Matawa Education and Care Centre student.

The organization is responding to a video appearing to show a local police officer striking an Indigenous 17-year-old girl.

Matawa calls the alleged actions of the officer and paramedic on site unacceptable and un-justifiable.

It adds it’s also investigating the incident and considering legal action.

Matawa says it will hold local police and EMS accountable, calling first responders’ approach “abhorrent”.
