Quebec Votes In New Government

A new party will form government in Quebec, with a landslide win.

The Coalition Avenir Quebec under Francois Legault was elected yesterday, the first time they have ever held power.

The CAQ won 74 seats for a majority government, the Liberals took just 32, with the Quebec solidaire was elected in 10 seats.

The separatist Parti Quebecois lost official status with only 9 seats, with its leader losing his own seat.

This crushes almost 50 years of Liberal and PQ reign.

A large part of the CAQ’s platform was about reducing immigration levels.

The CAQ is only about 7 years old, with Francois Legault a former member of the Parti Quebecois.
