Writer Speaks On Indigenous Challenges

The Dryden Rotary Club was treated to a presentation about what’s being done to help Indigenous people in the justice system.

Gladue Writer Jennifer Groves made a presentation to the club’s last meeting to talk about the work that she does.

Groves says there are a lot of unique challenges for Indigenous people.

“There are some reserves that are luckier than others, take for incident Wabigoon Lake and Eagle Lake. I’m out there quite a bit, because I have family on both, but there are some really bad conditions on some reserves that I’ve been to.”

She also talked about generational trauma and how it can affect families for 4 to 5 generations after a traumatizing event.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
