Why Victoria Day weekend feels so good

It’s finally here — Victoria Day weekend, the unofficial kickoff to summer in Thunder Bay and across Canada. That first glorious long weekend we’ve all been craving. This is the moment for backyard BBQs, hanging out with friends, heading to camp, fishing, boating — or whatever. Rain or shine, warm or not – soak it all in.

Here’s a fun conversation starter while you’re flipping burgers: why do we even celebrate Victoria Day? It’s actually a federal holiday that goes all the way back to 1845, created to honour Queen Victoria. And get this — Canada is the only country that marks her birthday with a holiday. Pretty cool right?

So however you’re spending the long weekend — living it up or doing absolutely nothing — it’s all good. No rules, no pressure.

Just enjoy the break, stay safe, and ease into that summer feeling.
