This week in Thunder Bay is bursting with summer energy—from the stirring sounds of bagpipes and the final Border Cats homestand to lakeside concerts and the opening of the CLE. Here’s what’s happening July 31–August 6:
Piping in the Park – Macgillivray Pipe Band

Location: Hillcrest Park
Date: Wednesday, July 31 | 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Enjoy a lively evening of traditional Scottish music with the Macgillivray Pipe Band. This long-standing Thunder Bay group has been performing since 1917 and continues to bring their music to parks and public spaces across the city. No admission required—just bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show.

The Muskeg Express at Centennial Park
Location: Centennial Park Road, off Arundel Street
Date: Thursday, August 1 | 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Take a ride on the Muskeg Express, operating Wednesdays through Sundays until Labour Day. Located in the heart of the city’s north side, Centennial Park offers a 1910 Logging Camp, farm animals, playgrounds, and scenic trails. The train runs throughout the day, with the last ride departing at 3:50 PM.

Thunder Bay Border Cats – Final Homestand

Live on the Waterfront
Location: Marina Park
Date: Wednesday, August 6 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
This week’s waterfront concert features performances by Sara Kae, Lancelot Knight, and Nadjiwan – Maamawe (All Together). Bring your friends, a blanket, and enjoy an evening of live music by the lake. Admission is open to all.
Canadian Lakehead Exhibition (CLE)

Location: CLE Grounds
Opening Day: Wednesday, August 6 | Noon – Midnight
The CLE returns with midway rides, live entertainment, food vendors, and family fun.
- Advance Admission: Adults $12, Kids (5–12) $8, Children under 4 enter at no cost
- Midway Rides: $35 advance, $45 on-site
Advance tickets are available until August 1 at cle.on.ca or participating retailers.
