I LOVE kids books! I have tattoos of Dr. Seuss characters, and all of my kids have been read Dr. Seuss and Robert Munsch for years. In fact, my oldest still quotes them from time to time even though he’s moved on to ‘older’ kids books. There is a publishing company out of the U.S. called Akashic Books that has released a series called ‘LyricPop’ just a few days ago. The series takes lyrics from popular songs and pairs them with illustrations aimed at younger kids, mostly pre-school age though I suspect any age would enjoy these! The series features lyrics from the Fleetwood Mac song ‘Don’t Stop’, The Beach Boys ‘Good Vibrations’, Peter Tosh’s ‘African’ and (the one I’m most excited about) Twisted Sister’s ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’. Dee Snider, who wrote the lyrics from Twisted Sisters 1984 hit song said that he didn’t really think about the song in the context of kids initially. When you think about it though, for many of us our first word was ‘no’. Rebellion is a feeling we’re born with. These aren’t the only books in the set though, there are are a host of others planned, including songs by Otis Redding and The Go-Go’s!! I’ve posted some images of the book covers below, and if you click here, it’ll take you to a place where you can see them all and order them yourself!

I wish this series had been available when the kids were younger, because I think it would have gone over gangbusters in our house. As it is, I’m definitey going to be ordering copies for myself. Who knows? Maybe I’ll still have them when I have grandkids (though that is a LONG way away at this point)!
