Bringing Back The City’s Waterfront Development Committee

Council is set to consider re-launching the Waterfront Development Committee.

The committee was first established in 2005 to respond to the development of Prince Arthur’s Landing however in 2018 it was deemed that the committee was no longer required and that elected officials would approve and make recommendations to future waterfront related work.

Councillor Brian McKinnon was on the committee and is bringing forward the motion on Monday.

“One of the key things that we keep talking about is finishing the trail system,” McKinnon says. “That’s something we can focus on initially, if we can get that finished there are all other kinds of possibilities that evolve from that one completion.”

The councillor added there are reasons why a motion like this needs the approval of council.

“There’s a cost associated with it, but it’s minor,” McKinnon noted. “When you set up a meeting of the committee you have to have minutes recorded. Those minutes then go to council for approval on a regular basis. The clerks office will assign secretarial help to record those minutes.”

The motion makes mention of have a report put together to re-establishing the committee back before council by June 21st.
