Around twenty people braved the damp cold weather to help depave an area around the TD Bank on Memorial today.
EcoSuperior, EarthCare Thunder Bay and the TD Bank are behind the initiative that saw 100 square meters of asphalt removed by hand as part of a community greening project.
The new space once complete will provide bird and butterfly habitat and improve stormwater run-off.
This spring trees and a no-mow prairie mix with flowers will be planted in the space.
The project was funded by Green Communities Canada through the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
