VIDEO: Black History Month Exhibits On Display

February is Black History Month and the Thunder Bay Museum and Caribbean African Multicultural Association are teaming up to bring two exhibits to our city.

The Roots of Freedom and Black Canadians in Sport exhibits are currently being showcased at the local museum on the second floor.

Jendaya Hopkins is 16-years-old and goes to school at Hammarskjold, she also is a youth coordinator with CAMAT. She tells us it’s great to see the history of black people and the amazing things they have accomplished.

Hopkins notes it’s important for youth to learn about their culture and in the Ontario school curriculum there is very little information on black history.

The youth coordinator says the one profile at the museum that really stands out to her is Harriet Tubman.

The two exhibits will be on display until March 1st. There are a number of activities being held this month to mark Black History Month including the 10th Annual Black History Month Dinner & Gala.
