VIA Rail Considering Route Options

Via Rail is looking into it’s options for passenger rail service between Winnipeg and Toronto.

The company suspended it’s luxury train service between the two cities on March 11th, citing the impossibility of maintaining schedules as CN deals with recent accidents involving oil trains.

A company spokesperson says VIA Rail is evaluating the situation on a daily basis for the Canadian Train and can not say if that would mean service would be restored to Lake Superior communities.

Via Rail service through Thunder Bay was cut off in 1989.
