There is support for the province’s decision to reduce electricity rates during the COVID crisis.
Synergy North President Rob Mace thinks it is a positive move at a time when everyone is facing financial challenges.
“We were kind of waiting for it, we knew it was coming. I think from a distribution utility perspective…we support the government here. Obviously…these are extraordinary times and small customers need a break trying to get through it,” says Mace.
The utility president believes the province will compensate them for any losses as a result of the move noting, “What the (energy) minister and the premier did say was the government was funding this amount and they quoted…I think it was $145 or $160 million they would be investing in this.”
For the next 45 days, the so-called time of use electricity pricing will stay at 10.1 cents per kilowatt-hour which is more than half the 20.8 cents charged during peak hours.
