Update To Collision On 102

Two people are in hospital with unknown injuries following a crash between a transport truck and pick up on highway 102.

OPP say it happened around 5 yesterday afternoon, the road was re-opened just before 8 last night.

The cause is not known yet.

THUNDER BAY OPP INVESTIGATE COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 102

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at approximately 5:03pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oliver Paipoonge Fire and Emergency Services and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 102 and Intola Road.

The driver of a pickup truck was south bound on Intola Road, proceeded onto Highway 102 and collided with a tractor trailer unit that was east bound on Highway 102.

The tractor trailer unit proceeded into the east bound ditch and rolled onto the driver side of the vehicle. The driver of the tractor trailer unit was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters.

The driver of the tractor trailer unit sustained non-life threatening injuries, the driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries, both were transported to hospital by ambulance. Highway 102 was closed to traffic for approximately 2.5 hours.

The investigation is continuing.
