United Way’s Novemburger event expanding across the province

A familiar event in Thunder Bay is expanding to other parts of the province and Alberta.

United Way’s Novemburger campaign has been running for the past five years.

The event supports United Way in Thunder Bay by providing funds for programs that address food insecurity like Dew Drop Inn’s Senior Food Hamper Program and more.

For every Novemburger sold, $2 is donated back to United Way.

“We’ve seen so much success with Novemburger over the past five years, so we thought it was time to spread the love,” explained the event’s Chef de Mission, Erika Mikkola. “It’s been a great experience connecting with United Ways across Canada to share this special campaign and to learn from one another.”

This year the event is expanding with the Thunder Bay chapter helping out nine other United Way locations providing coaching and material on how to run the event.

The new locations include:

  • East Ontario
  • Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo
  • Guelph Wellington Dufferin
  • Hastings & Prince Edward
  • Leeds & Grenville
  • Oxford County
  • Sarnia-Lambton
  • Simcoe Muskoka
  • Waterloo Region Communities

Collectively, across all ten participating communities, there will be approximately 140 participating restaurants and over 60 ambassadors taking part.

That is not the only change to the event as this year Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. has developed a Novembrewger, a non-alcoholic rootbeer that will be sold at several Novemburger Locations and grocery stores during the campaign. For every can sold, 25 cents will be donated to United Way.

Novemburger officially kicks off on November 1, and this year’s burgers will be announced on the same day.
