You can just sense the excitement for the founder of a gym for youth and those who go there.
Peter Panetta tells us they’ve reached their $90,000 funding goal for a new Underground Gym, and are buying a building not far from the old Simpson Street location.
“My teens, when they saw the new gym, they were excited at the potential. It’s actually better than the old one, in that all along the wall there are these different rooms,” says Panetta.
He adds, though, he is keeping the location quiet saying some do not want this to succeed.
However, Panetta says the community support has been amazing, but he’s also heard from many kids. “From what I get a few of the kids who wanted to access the Underground Gym, that have never accessed it, will now have a place… it’s pretty exciting.”
The fundraising was done in just a week, and he says it’s within one kilometre of its original location on Simpson Street.
It was forced to close last fall because of water damage after a nearby fire.
