Two charged after Highway 11/17 collision in Thunder Bay

Two drivers are facing charges after a collision Tuesday night that shut down Highway 11/17 in Thunder Bay for more than two hours.

The crash between a motorcycle and a truck happened around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection with Oliver Road. The motorcyclist, a 66-year-old from Slate Falls First Nation, had already been taken to hospital by the time Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrived.

As part of their investigation, officers attended the hospital and determined the rider was impaired after he failed a breath test.

The rider was arrested and charged with two counts of impaired driving.

The driver of the pickup truck, also from Thunder Bay, was charged with failing to provide a reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.

Highway 11/17 was closed in both directions until about 10:45 p.m. while officers investigated.
