Trump Acquitted On Impeachment Charges

The United States Senate has acquitted President Donald Trump on both charges of impeachment.

Trump was found not guilty of abuse of power the first article of impeachment with two-thirds of the Senate voting to acquit.

The second article of impeachment required 34 votes of not guilty. The final vote was 53 not guilty, 47 guilty meaning Trump is acquitted.

Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney voted against his party to convict President Donald Trump on the first article of impeachment.

Romney told his fellow senate members that Trump is guilty of the appalling abuse of the public’s trust.

“I’m aware that there are people in my party and in my state and that I will be vehemently denounced. I’m sure to hear abuse from the President and his supporters but does anyone believe I would consent to these consequences other from an inescapable conviction that my oath before God demanded it of me,” Romney said.

Republican Mississipi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith feels this impeachment trial was a biased attempt to attack the President.

“I remain hopeful that we can finally set aside this flawed partisan investigation, prosecution and persecution of President Trump,” Hyde-Smith said.

Democrat Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown said those members who voted against impeachment will forever have their names tied to Trump and his actions.

“Everyone can and should be held accountable, I hope my colleagues will remember that. I hope they will choose courage over fear, I hope they will choose country over party,” Brown added.

The Republicans have the majority of the Senate Chamber which led many to expect the President would be acquitted.
