Transit To Test Out Bus Safety Shields

City transit is embarking on a trial project involving testing out safety shields for their drivers.

Acting Manager of Transit Services, Pascal Gauvreau tells us two shields have been ordered and they are waiting on an installation date that could be six to eight weeks from now.

“Other transit properties have done the same trial and they’ve had mixed reviews from the operators. Some liked them, some didn’t so it is a big decision to make and an important one because operator safety is important to us.”

The Acting Manager of Transit Services notes they’ve seen an increase in attacks against their drivers and they stand by their employees right to a safe workplace. He adds any assault on a transit driver is unacceptable.
