Toronto Man Dies In Highway 17 Crash

A 36-year old Toronto man is dead following a fatal crash on Highway 17, between Marathon and Terrace Bay.

Provincial police say it was last night at around 9:30 when an eastbound SUV crossed the centre line and hit a westbound transport truck.

The truck ended up crashing into some rocks on the south side of the road, while the SUV came to a stop in the eastbound lane.

Police say the driver of the SUV, who was alone, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency crews then began flying him to Thunder Bay hospital, but that was called off after the man was pronounced dead.

Police add the 24-year woman from Kapuskasing, driving the transport, is reported as stable in hospital with major injuries, while the 38-year old male passenger from Hearst was released with minor injuries.

No names have been given.

Police still have the road closed.
