A government crackdown on alleged criminal activity in the towing industry will not effect Northwestern Ontario.
Dave Allen of Gary’s Towing in Thunder Bay explains the task force announced this week, which has been set up to examine the towing industry, is mainly aimed at operators in southern Ontario some of whom are under police scrutiny.
“It’s a lot of payoffs and a lot of kickbacks…to get at the accidents.” Allen.
He tells us tow truck operators in this part of the province are not fighting each other for territory like they are in the south saying “The OPP have us on a rotation system through a one call number…there are six or seven of us on that and it just rotates and everybody sees who’s getting what accidents and we just police ourselves.”
The Thunder Bay tow truck operator says companies from the Thunder Bay, Marathon, Longlac, and Dryden areas are part of the network.
