A clinical counsellor from California has gone viral on TikTok with simple tips to help parents build stronger connections with their kids.

First one: Become a fan.

Yes— it’s easy to zone out when your kid is talking about dinosaurs, video games, or whatever pop star they’re obsessed with. But showing interest in their interests is one of the easiest ways to bond.

Next: Rephrase your questions.

Instead of the classic “How was school today,” which gets you that one‑word answer… try “Did you see your friends today?” or “What was the funniest thing that happened?” Those open the door to real conversations.

In the end, it all comes down to connection, empathy, and growth — the building blocks of great parenting.
