Tiny Homes Venture Moving Forward

City staff will continue working on the Tiny Homes initiative in Thunder Bay.

Council voted unanimously Monday to give their vote of confidence to the Tiny Homes Committee which is looking at possibly installing six homes adjacent to the former Dawson Court Home For The Aged.

The location was identified in a presentation on December 13th with it being close to supports and services including the Salvation Army, Matawa, and amenities such as grocery stores.

A July 2021 estimate that the annual cost to take care of a homeless individual for the city of Thunder Bay is anywhere between $60,000 and $120,000.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
