I’ll admit, as of this writing I have yet to watch an episode of Tiger King on Netflix, though I’ve seen enough memes on social media and heard enough people talking about it to know the gist of the story. Two rival ‘big cat’ zoo owners have a very public fight and one of them (a very outspoken, flamboyant person who actually ran for President at one point) ends up in jail for apparently trying to hire a hitman to kill the other. The other one is suspected of murdering her husband and possibly feeding him to her big cats….it’s high quality drama! In any case, it has taken the Netflix (and internet) world by storm. So much so that composer Andrew Lippa has begun working on a musical version of the show! Since he can’t, obviously, put the musical into production for stage audiences, he’s working remotely with singers and putting out videos of the songs for people to enjoy. It’s a pretty hilarious premise and I’ve had a good laugh following along. You can check out the first song that’s been released so far below. It’s sung by actress Kristin Chenoweth from the point of view of Carole Baskin, the zookeeper accused of feeding her husband to tigers!
