Thunder Bay’s bike lanes are closing for the season.
Residents can still use the lanes after they close, but the city will not be clearing or cleaning them, and they may be used for snow storage.
“As the days get shorter, we encourage riders to use lights and wear reflective clothing to be visible, and to use hand signals to communicate to drivers,” said Mobility Coordinator, Matthew Lawrence. “We also ask drivers to slow down, clear their windows for visibility, watch for riders and avoid driving in the bike lanes.”
The city is asking all riders choosing to use bike lanes and roadways during the winter to exercise caution with changing road conditions and reduced visibility.
The lanes are closing on Friday and the city expects to re-open them on May 1, 2025, depending on weather conditions.
