Thunder Bay resident facing several child sexual abuse charges

A Thunder Bay resident is facing multiple child sexual abuse charges following an investigation by city police’s Cyber Crime Unit.

The investigation began earlier this year after police received a tip about someone in the area uploading child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

A home in the community was searched earlier this year and several electronics were seized.

Further investigation determined the suspect had been talking to and exchanging sexually explicit material with a minor in the United States.

The suspect turned themselves in to police on Tuesday morning.

As a result, a 32-year-old from Thunder Bay is facing the following charges:

  • Luring x2
  • Making explicit material available to a child
  • Indecent exposure
  • Making child pornography x3
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Accessing child pornography

The accused has been released from custody with conditions and a future court date.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to contact Detective Constable Joel Manherz at (807) 684-1200 ext. 4115.

Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online here.
