After a long-winded search, the Vancouver Canucks have settled on their newest General Manager.
Thunder Bay-born Ryan Johnson will take the reigns, stepping up from his assistant GM role with the team. Johnson was chosen over Boston Bruins assistant GM Evan Gold in what was reportedly a tight race.
The former Thunder Bay Kings and Thunder Bay Flyers centre played 15 years in the NHL. His best statistical season came in 2001, when he scored 7 goals and tallied 14 assists for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Johnson played two seasons with the Canucks late in his career from 2008 to 2010.
After his father lost a battle with cancer in June 2008, Johnson paid tribute by completing a 42.2-kilometre marathon the following year in Duluth, Minnesota. He finished in just under four hours.
