Thunder Bay Man Handed 12 Month Sentence

A 27-year-old Thunder Bay man will have 138 days left to serve for charges that date back to 2020.

Josiah Thomas appeared in court Tuesday to enter the plea for the following offenses:

  • Several counts of breaching probation
  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Possession of ammunition while under a prohibition order
  • Impaired Driving
  • Failing to stop at the scene of a collision

Thomas was involved in a February 22, 2021 event in which he was behind the wheel of a blue van that ran a red light at Edward and James Streets, and collided with another vehicle.

A subsequent chase ended with the vehicle ending up in a snowbank in a nearby parking lot on Edward.

As part of his sentence, Thomas is on two years probation and is required to submit a DNA sample along with complying to a weapons prohibition, a driving prohibition, and is required to keep the peace.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
