Thunder Bay Kings Resume Play In Toronto

A trio of Thunder Bay Kings squads return to action in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).

The teams have been skating indoors since January 31st when Ontario began its gradual and phased in re-opening plan.

The GTHL is guaranteeing a full season of play, which means four of the next five weekends will involve plane and bus rides.

“That’ll be challenging,” said U-16 Head Coach Lonny Bohonos, when asked about the upcoming schedule. “(However) I think the players want to play and the coaches want to play. We’re at the point now where we don’t want to practice anymore, we just want to get back into game action. The competition is the most fun part of it.”

U-18’s Head Coach Jeff Riccardi noted that there is a balancing act with young athletes.

“It’s so important to keep the kids sharp and focused, but also to give them rest and allow them to deal with their studies,” said Riccardi. “I don’t want to use the term ‘issue’ but it’s tough to find that happy medium where you are giving them everything they need but at the same time allowing them the rest so they can perform at their best.”

In an earlier conversation with Acadia News, Kings President Michael Power said that talks continue about planning post-season play.
