Thunder Bay Inn To Become Transition House

St. Joseph’s Care Group is teaming up with a number of organizations to offer 30 new transitional housing beds.

The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board, St. Joseph’s Foundation, St. Joseph’s Care Group, Dilico Anishinabek Family Care and Alpha Court are all helping to make this project a reality.

CEO Tracy Buckler announced the Lodge on Dawson, which was the former Thunder Bay Inn on Dawson Road.

“We’re excited to open it in September and we hope it will be on time. It will house 30 people that really need help.”

She goes on to say it isn’t a large construction project since accommodations and amenities for an inn also work well for a transition house.

The new facility will help the homeless and people living with addictions and mental health challenges.

The building is currently under construction.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing provided a one-time grant of $2.2 million.
