Thunder Bay digitizes building permitting process

Businesses, industries, and others looking to build in Thunder Bay can now pursue their permits entirely online.

The City of Thunder Bay previously digitized the permitting process for residential buildings in 2024.

Now, commercial, industrial, and institutional builds can take advantage of the same online process.

“With this launch, users can take advantage of new features, including 24/7 access to permit applications, online payment, improved email integration, and seamless digital plan submission,” explained the city in its announcement.

The move to digitize permitting comes as part of the city’s Digital Strategy, which was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic in recognition of the need for more flexible, accessible government services.

Information on permitting can be accessed on the city website.
