The City of Thunder Bay is reminding property owners that short term rentals are not exempt from the Municipal Accommondation Tax.
People that rent out homes or rooms for less than 30 days are required to charge a 5 percent Municipal Accommodation Tax.
That includes places that are for rent through VRBO and AirBNB.
That then has to be remitted to the city either monthly or quarterly.
The city says all operators of rental properties have to register.
