Thunder Bay set to celebrate Archives Awareness Week

Thunder Bay is set to celebrate Archive Awareness Week.

The week is an opportunity for the public to learn more about archival work and how it impacts the community.

“We invite people to come and explore their archives anytime, but these two days offer a unique opportunity to get into our vaults,” said City Archivist Christina Wakefield. “Our building is full of history, and if you want to learn more about our city, the Archives should be your first stop for accurate information.”

The Harry Kirk City Archives are hosting two open houses with behind-the-scenes public tours at 235 Vickers Street North from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8.

The City Archives and cultural heritage organizations help preserve Thunder Bay’s community’s history.

The archive building is set to be expanded this summer.

Visitors will be able to view the renderings and floor plans for the new addition before construction starts in a few months.

Archives Awareness is celebrated across Ontario from April 7th to 30th.

Archive Awareness Week starts in Thunder Bay on Monday.

The city says you can follow the hashtag #ArchivesFunFacts to learn more about archival work across the province.
