The 10th Anniversary of ThunderCon Was Epic: Watch Dee’s wrap-up video here!

The 10th annual ThunderCon lit up the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition grounds this weekend, and it was one for the books.

From cosplay to gaming, panels to vendors, the event was packed with excitement from the moment doors opened.

Taking the captain’s seat: Dee explores ThunderCon
in true Star Trek style.

This year’s convention had something for everyone — the vendors in the ‘Multiverse Marketplace’ were amazing!

The list of activities was endless…Countdown Escape Rooms made a unique & immersive room called ‘The Continuum’ which featured Dr. Who’s TARDIS and even a jump scare which I totally fell for lol!

ThunderCon’s cosplayers brought the fandom to life! I walked by so many amazing costumes from video game characters to Superheroes —and everything in between. Creativity, attention to detail, and pure passion were on full display!

Fans of every age had no shortage of things to see and do. The guest list was stacked too. Legendary actor Doug Jones (known for Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Star Trek: Discovery) made his first-ever appearance in Thunder Bay, sharing stories from his incredible career and meeting fans who’ve followed his work for years. Joining him was Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat, aka Coach Sanguinet from Shoresy, who drew big crowds for Q&As and photo ops.

Local performers and small businesses also had a spotlight, from fire eaters to artisans, giving Thunder Bay creators a big stage to shine on.

I had the chance to meet 14-year-old entrepreneur Devin Levallee, the creative mind behind Devin’s Dynamic Designs. He runs his very own licensed custom 3D-printing business — and wow, was his booth impressive! Alongside his mom, Melody, Devin showcased a huge variety of creations, from fun fidgets and quirky creatures to super practical items like cart coins, phone stands, and business card holders. Basically, if you can dream it, this talented kid can print it. Such an inspiring young creator!

And if that wasn’t enough, Sunday promised an epic showdown with Star Wars vs. Star Trek in a hot sauce challenge, raising funds for the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Rebel Alliance or Klingons!

Clearly Xenomorphs don’t have a sense of humour! Pfft!

ThunderCon continues to prove why it’s such a beloved event in the city: it’s not just a convention, it’s a celebration of fandom, creativity, and community. Can’t wait to see what the next year brings!
