Teachers Hold Strike Vote

A decision on whether to strike or not has been reached by Lakehead elementary school teachers after going over latest contract negotiations between the union and government.

Mike Judge is the local union’s President, and says there’s no need for students and parents to worry once the vote result from last night is revealed November 1st.

“November 1st doesn’t mean November 2nd there’s going to be some kind of job action. That’s not what that means at all. There are all kinds of steps that need to go through even to get to a legal strike position.”

He’s maintaining that position even though he’s expecting the result to point to job action.

“And that doesn’t mean we’re walking out the door, it simply means we are solidly behind our team. It sounds like a scary word, it’s just really an endorsement of our team. The last thing we want to do is get to job action, we want to be around the table.”

The union boss adds class size, protection of Kindergarten and support for students with special needs are being discussed.
