Here’s a random fact for today and it’s totally random, as in this popped up on my computer today for absolutely no reason!
We’ve all heard of Taser’s, and we know what they do, but did you know that Taser isn’t actually a word, but an Acronym? It stands for Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle! Now, Tom Swift was a fictional inventor in a series of young adult fiction books which started back in 1910! I’ve never read one but apparently the books focused on how amazing science is and how heroic inventors were! Apparently there have been several inventions, including the taser, inspired by Tom Swifts fictional inventions!
I found a site here that actually takes you to a page chronicling all of the adventures of Tom Swift (and Tom Swift Jr.). Apparently many inventors and Sci-Fi writers, including Steve Wozniak of Apple and Isaac Asimov were inspired by the adventures of Tom Swift!
I think I’m going to have to check out Tom Swifts books now! If I can get the kids interested, maybe we’ll end up with the next Steve Wozniak and I can retire early!
