Talk Of Municipality Merger Heats Up

A politically charged issue is coming before the municipalities of Oliver Paipoonge and Conmee.

Mayors Kevin Holland and Lucy Kloosterhuis say their administrations are considering merging into one, adding after years of working together, there are too many benefits not to explore the idea further.

A recent news release indicates both areas have worked together to find savings, yet maintaining services, and they’ll weigh the benefits and disadvantages further.

Kevin Holland adds Oliver Paipoonge staff have helped Conmee with administration, and there are too many similarities. Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis adds it would be a huge step, with service delivery, financial matters, economic benefits and political influence to be analyzed.

The public will be kept informed through newsletters and websites, and input will be sought in future meetings. Homeowners are asked to keep an objective viewpoint when examining all the details.
