Stage Is Up For Wake The Giant

Set up for the region’s first music festival since the start of the pandemic is nearly complete.

The Stage for Wake the Giant is officially up, with other preparations currently being worked on.

This year’s event is expected to have around 3,900 people attend, falling within COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.

The festival is being headlined by Third Eye Blind, Jessie Reyez, and Loud Luxury.

Sean Spenrath is one of the organizers of the festival, and says this will be something to remember.

“We’re the first live show in Thunder Bay to ever have the pyro, the fireballs, the CO2 cannons, a music festival in Thunder Bay has never done that, period, end of story and we’re going to be the first one and I am jacked for that,” explains Spenrath. “Our headliners are off the chain, it is going to be the craziest show.”

The festival will be the first live show in Northern Ontario in almost two years.

The organizer goes on to say while the set up has been hectic, they learned a lot the last time around.

“I thought it would be a lot tougher,” says Spenrath. “I guess doing it your second time, the set up and the committee that knows their roles, we’ve kind of eased into it. There have been different hurdles with COVID, but everyone has faced hurdles like that. It hasn’t been as bad as we thought it would be, and the health unit has really guided us and told us what we had to do, and we’re following that to a tee.”

If you are interested in the event there is a vaccine policy in place. You will be required to show proof of vaccination to enter, but if you are unable to you can provide a proof of a negative test within 72-hours of the festival.

Oak Medical Pharmacy, located at 620 Arthur Street, has partnered with Wake the Giant to provide rapid testing for a discounted cost of $20 per test on:

  • Friday, September 17th (9:00 am- 7:00 pm)
  • Saturday, September 18th (9:00 am- 1:00 pm)

Gates open Saturday at noon.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
