Council has approved in principal a new user fee for its sports fields which will bring in an extra $14,000 a year for the city.
A new $550 fee for some sports teams will be put into the 2020 budget for Council to consider at a future date.
There are around 416 teams in the city that would be required to pay the fee.
Councillor Rebecca Johnson was concerned some young athletes wouldn’t be able to afford the new fees and it would discourage them from getting involved in sports.
