Spike Belt Slows Stolen Vehicle

A 31-year old Toronto man is facing a number of charges after trying to run from Thunder Bay and provincial police.

They tell us around midnight Thursday, into Friday morning, a Nipigon OPP officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.

The vehicle, which police say was stolen from Thunder Bay, sped off, but Thunder Bay OPP successfully slowed it down with a spike belt near McGregor Road. The driver kept going on the rims before forced from the road near Balsam Street. The man was tasered by police after a foot chase, and is now waiting for a bail hearing.

Two police cars were damaged.
