Southern Ontario resident facing charges after evading police with stolen vehicle

A London, Ontario resident is facing charges after evading police in a stolen vehicle.

Officers were responding to an alert of a stolen vehicle on Sunday morning in the Nipigon area when they saw a suspect travelling in the vehicle on Highway 17.

A spike belt was used to disable the vehicle just before noon near the Ruby Creek area.

After the car came to a stop, the driver was seen running away.

This led to a provincial police social media post advising the public not to pick up hitchhikers.

An extensive search led to officers locating the suspect later that same evening.

As a result, a 36-year-old is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused remains in custody with a future court date.
