SIU Probes Man’s Death In Thunder Bay

The province’s civilian police watchdog is investigating the Thunder Bay Police Service again.

The Special Investigations Unit reports it is in connection with the death of a 55 year old man who had an interaction with police.

On Wednesday afternoon of last week police took the man into custody after a complaint from the Starbucks on Fort William Road about two trespassers.

While being driven in the cruiser the man appeared not to feel well so the officer rushed him to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he died the next day.

The SIU has assigned three investigators to the case adding they were not made aware of the case until Monday.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
