SIU clears city police officer of wrongdoing

A Thunder Bay Police Officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU triggered an investigation in April after a resident was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after an interaction with city police.

According to the investigation, the individual was delusional, highly agitated and holding a knife when officers made contact.

It was concluded that the officers did everything they could to assist the individual, who ultimately harmed themselves.

The SIU investigation has been closed. A full breakdown of the investigation can be found here.

The Special Investigations Unit can investigate the actions of officials like police officers, special constables of the Niagara Parks Commission or peace officers under the Legislative Assembly Act, that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
