A fifth candidate is now in the Thunder Bay mayor’s race. Retired city council news reporter Shane Judge is throwing his hat in the ring because he disagrees with how councillors have handled the events centre file.
He says the project is one that should have gone to the voters in a plebiscite. Judge believes taxpayers in the future won’t be able to carry the load, as evidenced by our shrinking population.
He says figures from the Ministry of Finance show we’ll lose another 7 thousand people between 2010 and 2036. Judge asks “who’s going to pay for this thing after the baby boomers pass on to that great tax free zone in the sky?”
He adds he’s become upset at the lack of respect this council and the last council have shown the public. (Photo:Sheri Leviski-Kotyk)
