Security cameras look to be added across Thunder Bay

The addition of 31 new security camera locations across the city is set to be approved by city council.

It is a part of the Eye on the Street Code of Practice, which is led by the city and Thunder Bay Police Service.

It is a community public safety initiative that provides video monitoring for safety, security, and evidence collection purposes.

The program was created in 2005, but renewed in partnership with Tbaytel and financially supported by the federal government.

The cost of the expansion has already been factored into this year’s city budget.

A successful funding application is helping to place about 16 of the 31 cameras, and additional approved locations will be considered in future budgets.

Council meets on Monday.
