Second State Of Emergency Declared By Mayor

The mayor has declared another state of emergency for the City of Thunder Bay.

Bill Mauro indicates it is to support the city’s request for assistance for health and social services in relation to COVID-19 as it applies to helping vulnerable people like those who are homeless or who use the community’s shelters.

It is part of his efforts to get immediate assistance from the Province for additional funding to handle those situations.

The first state of emergency for the city was declared on April 23rd of last year in response to the initial threat of COVID-19.

“We are requesting assistance from the Province because we need more support, both financially and staffing, to be able to expand the capacity of the isolation centre for those who are COVID-19 positive or are considered high risk contacts and have nowhere else to go,” said Mayor Mauro.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
