Saskatchewan Offers Help With Evacuees

As Thunder Bay makes an appeal for other Ontario communities to help with forest fire evacuees, Saskatchewan is stepping up.

That province is offering to house as many as 2,000 people fleeing forest fires from northwestern Ontario.

Premier Doug Ford says he discussed yesterday the forest fire situation with Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, who agreed to help.

Ford says as many as twenty communities are effected by active fires, but only Keewayin and Pikangikum are the only communities evacuating people.

A full scale evacuation of Pikangikum is underway, but has been hindered by smoke and places to send people.

Flights out of the community are expected this morning, but any travel by road or boat has been halted until further notice.
