Resolute Forest Products inks what it calls a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding with six First Nations in Northwestern Ontario.
The forestry giant says the agreement underscores the commitment of both Resolute and its operating communities to work together to create jobs and economic opportunity across the region.
The company says the MOA has already resulted in $100 million in new business for the six communities, adding the deal has yielded contracts for construction at Resolute sawmills, transportation for hauling chips, biomass and lumber, yard services as well as log harvesting and delivery.
Participating communities include Couchiching, Seine River, Nigigoonsiminikaaning, Mitaanjigamiing, Lac Ca Croix, and Lac des Milles Lacs.
