Record Low Friday In Four Communities

The extreme cold is shattering weather records in the Northwest.

On Friday, Bill Laidlaw of Signal Weather Services says Red Lake was the coldest community in the region at -41.5 degrees.

That beat the old mark of -38.9 set in 1981.

Fort Frances also eclipsed 1981’s -40 record at -40.9.

Laidlaw says Dryden reported -36.7 at 8am, enough to break the old mark of -35.1 set 1981.

He says it could have been colder but the equipment went off the air a few times on Friday so the value for low temperature is ‘missing’.

Kenora reached -34.8 , beating the old 1967 record of -33.9.

An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect across the region.
